For a second time this week, MCFC’s Football Adminstrator Brian Marwood has taken a firm stance over club policy, this time with regard to some of our superstar players…

Marwood has already defended City’s transfer policy this week and has moved swiftly today to dismiss certain comments.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s very public preparedness to do one if not a first choice selection at City led today to Marwood, in Monaco for the Europa League draw reacting in no uncertain terms:

‘These players need to realise that if you are paying them, they are salaried, contracted and have obligations to their football club…they are part of the squad. They have to work hard to prove they are worth a place in the team. We are trying to create a very competitive environment at Manchester City.’

Marwood’s comments echo the sentiments of respected Liverpool gaffer Roy Hodgson who is fighting a rearguard action against the antics of Javier Mascherano and his agent at Liverpool.

…and upon return from a serious shoulder injury, not the first in his career which has recently required attention in Germany, Shay Given has found himself second choice to the in form and fully fit for months Joe Hart. Given, too has declared his potential unwillingness to fight for his place. Marwood had this to say regarding Adebayor and Given:

‘Emmanuel is no different to Shay Given, to other players in the squad who want to be playing. I understand that. I’ve been there myself. It’s frustrating. But if we are to have a successful season we need to have depth in our squad, and Roberto will rotate his squad how he sees fit.’
