MCFC Monday Round Up

A goalkeeper is now believed to be the number one priority for Sven after it was confirmed that Andreas Isaksson had fractured his thumb and will miss the first month of the season.

The tabloids are never slow to jump on the bandwagon and have City linked with Scott Carson, Carlo Cudicini and Marco Amelia.

Carson, however, is overvalued at £9 million and Cudicini is unlikely to be released by Chelsea whilst doubts remain over Cech’s fitness.

That makes Livorno’s Amelia the most likely choice of the three but don’t be surprised if Sven surprises the tabloids again and purchases somebody no-one has linked City to.

Saturday’s game against Valencia meanwhile was a worthwhile excercise with several of the new lads getting a run out.

The team looked rusty at times, that is only to be expected, but there were obvious glimpses of potential and the signs were that City will threaten a lot more than they did last season.

City are also reported to be on the verge of naming Palermo’s Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano as their ninth signing of the summer.

Bresciano will cost City somewhere in the region of £3 million and will provide further competition for midfield places.

Other newspaper reports have City strongly linked with Benfica’s Fernandes; as with all those others that have been linked over the summer I’ll wait with baited breath on this one.
