Manchester born Roy Harper has been involved in the music industry since the 60’s and today he’s taken time out from writing and recording to concentrate on the FA Cup Final and his beloved Manchester City Football Club.

Roy sent Vital Manchester City the following.

Manchester City play Stoke City at Wembley later today in an attempt to end 35 years of no real trophies. (For either). City have potentially the best players, Stoke are playing the better football at the moment, so take your pick…maybe.

City got the result against Tottenham, but Tottenham won the game, morally at least. That won’t make sense to anyone wearing azure-tinted spectacles, but it was a bit of an ordeal for this City fan. Carlos came on for the last fifteen minutes and showed everyone just why he’s so indispensable. If he’d been fit, and on the field for half the game a City player would have scored. Probably him.

There are periods in every City game where they look like world beaters, but for two thirds of the time they struggle, with the defensive attitude they still have to rely on because they’re still not quite a team yet. Then suddenly Yaya will go on an incredible run, and some of the troops will follow him into battle, and it may look fantastic for ten minutes, but then it fades into confusion and lost possession, with Zab bleeding in several places as he personally stops the opposition single-handed.

Kompany is worth 25 points a season in terms of stops, and the Lawnmower is likely to do a decent job today as long as he steers clear of an early yellow card. A team is beginning to develop, but it’s likely to be disrupted again by the transfer window. And personally, I don’t fancy Ibrahimovic. He looks like an alternative Adebayour to me.

City will probably start like a train and then fade into some kind of disorder that Kompany will have to dispel. Let’s hope that Lescott and Micah, if he plays, are in the mood to help. If Stoke score first, it may very well be good for the game. It may very well force the man from Jesi to think more about attacking. It may concentrate the minds and the often dysfunctional energy of the foreign legion, although I’m sure that they’ve been made fully aware of the huge cultural significance that tomorrow bears.

Not only to this whole culture, but to this Club in particular, who have been starved of this day for many years. You could argue that Hartlepool United have too, but City always was, and still is, one of the best supported Clubs in this or any other league, and for over a hundred years and more.

Today, I’m going to have a bet on Stoke lifting the Cup. I hope I’ll lose, of course, but at least then I’ll have some sort of consolation. Will I? Could there ever be any? No, there could never be any consolation for a loss later today. Don’t be daft Roy, live the dream; just put a fiver on City. And hope that Shawn scores the winner. Come On City!!!
