City defender Micah Richards is determined to follow City’s six established England players into the national squad…

The MCFC Academy graduate who has delivered erratic and if anything numerous unfocused performances for The Blues told th’official site:

‘I want to push on and get in the seniors now, and there is no reason why I can’t if I’m starting in Manchester City’s team…When the boss has confidence in you that definitely helps your game, and for him to say that if I concentrate I can become one of the best defenders in England is quite a compliment to get from your manager.’

Richards has been booked twice in the league this season and his position is under threat in Roberto Mancini’s side with giant German Jérôme Boateng nearing full fitness. Yet he maintains he can and will improve. All City fans will dearly hope that one of our own can again reach the highest level of the sport:

‘..I think the increased competition in our squad has made me play a little bit better. I want that to continue for the rest of the season…If we can win something for the fans and I’m playing well, then there’s no reason why I can’t get back in the England squad.’

22 year old Micah has 11 England appearances under his belt with one goal scored since his international debut against Holland in November 2006.

Can Micah become an established England International? Give us a shout both here and in the VMC Forums.
