After missing out on a place in England`s European Championship squad, as much by his own hand as Roy Hodgson`s, Richards was named in the Olympic squad as one of three over-age players, taking the place of former red David Beckham.

During Micah`s preparation for the the tournament which commences at Old Trafford against Senegal on July 26, Richards also found out his club manager, Roberto Mancini, has agreed to stay at the Etihad Stadium for the next five years.

According to City`s Golden boy, that could be the most important signing City make this summer.

Richards was earlier quoted saying:

“Being out with Team GB, I`ve seen Mancini has signed a new contract and he`s absolutely the right man to take the club forward,” said Richards. “It`s all happening so fast. To win the FA Cup and a Premier League title in two seasons is unbelievable really.”

Micah who signed for City as a 14-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the stand out performers over recent seasons and has enjoyed a front row seat for the club`s transformation.

Before Richards begins his plot in City`s title defense, he has the chance to end the summer as a gold medallist.

He owes the opportunity to Pearce, who has picked the 24-year-old at club level for City, for England Under-21s, the senior team and now Team GB. It`s a faith Richards intends to repay in gold.

The Blues wish Micah Richards the best of luck.
