Micah Richards: ‘Pace And Power’

The resurgence of Micah Richards continues with every barnstorming run and never say die challenge. But it’s that bit of extra savvy that is pleasing to sky blue eyes…

Micah is one of those players like Michael Johnson that seems to have been around forever at City and it’s very often easy to forget that the athletic defender with 12 England Caps and 168 City appearances under his belt is still only 22 years old.

The MCFC Academy graduate saw his form nosedive under Mark Hughes with silly mistakes blighting his appearances when called upon. Yet now, under the defensive stewardship of Roberto Mancini, the player is responding superbly to the increased competition for defensive places. He is showing increased focus and tactical awareness.

Micah, who on recent evidence has terrified some defences, is eager to attack and at the same time suggests that his dramatic return to form has been enhanced by pressure from players such as Jerome Boateng:

‘I like to get forward…maybe we could use my runs more and give the team an extra boost. I’ve got good pace and power – that is what people know me for…The competition has been good for me. It has made me raise my game a little bit. It is all about playing well when the manager picks you…It is tough out there but I believe I am as good as anyone. It is not being big-headed, it is just what I feel when I am working hard.’
