Micah’s Best Position Poser

After a stunning international debut against the Dutch earlier this week, it looks like Micah Richards is the heir apparent to the England right back position.

Micah has been solid as a rock at right back for City this season and arguably our most consistent player to date. However, you may or may not know that right back is not his natural position and that he was shoe-horned in there to do a job last season after City’s forgotten rising star Nedum Onouha was injured and Danny Mills was just a total nightmare.

Those of us who have followed Micah’s career and watched him in the freezing cold and wet when he was in the reserves will have seen him play in a host of positions where he did a great job in the centre of defence and elsewhere.

But in my view, he looks to me to be a natural midfielder and given City’s woeful lack of midfield punch, it’s about time he was given a run out alongside Joey in the heart of the midfield. Now that Trabelsi is fully fit, it wouldn’t be much of a gamble to experiment with that formation.

It seems that I’m not the only one to think Micah’s best position is in the centre of the park. Our recent web poll asked: ‘Where Should Micah Play?’ and the response was:

Midfield – 63%

Right Back – 28%

Central Defence – 9%

Now that he’s played for his country at right back there’s a danger he’ll be pigeon-holed in that position, but it would be good to give him a chance in midfield, because he could just turn out to be the answer to our problem area.
