James Milner is the go to man for City, and England, when you need someone to ‘fill in’, because he can, and he could be used as an emergency forward as we struggle with injuries up top.

Milner, in my mind, has been something of an underrated commodity but I do feel that even more so this season he’s proving himself as a man that you can rely and depend upon – perhaps it is this ‘versatility’ that sometimes works against him?

With Sergio Aguero already injured, Stevan Jovetic being injured again against Roma and Edin Dzeko pulling up before the Leicester game we literally have no recognised striker left at the moment!

This has led to Manuel Pellegrini admitting to the media that Milner could be used as a makeshift striker, although he is considering more familiar, and perhaps comfortable options such as David Silva of Samir Nasri too.

He said: ‘We will work this week with the players to see who can play best in that position. It can be Silva, it can be Nasri, it can be Milner.

‘We must decide which is the best one. I always said James is a very useful player for the squad. At some moments he wants to play more but wherever he plays he is important. That is why we’ve kept him here.’

We’ve already used Milner right across the midfield line this season, in defence, now up front? I’m pretty sure that he started out as a striker at Leeds as a kid so it’ll not be unfamiliar with him as such would it.

You would think Silva or Nasri will be the more likely options mind….
