Midfielder James Milner has admitted that Manchester City have been sloppy of late with results but he’s not giving up hope of retaining the title.

On the back of the Leicester win, drawing a line under the recent losses, Milner said we have it all to do now to close that gap on Chelsea, but we have to focus on our own form and ensure that we start putting in the performances we know we are capable of between now and the end of the season to do all we can to get back in the race properly.

In quotes carried by Sky Sports, the England man explained.

‘I think we have played better bit it is pleasing to get a result. It was important to bounce back after the disappointment of the weekend. Now it is about recovering from this period and getting back to 100%, then working on things that we have been struggling on and getting back to the form we know we can hit and have shown in games, for periods of maybe 10, 15 or 10 minutes at a time.’

Milner goes on to admit we have become ‘sloppy’ at times, so the focus has to be on stepping up from that, hitting form and not just being at our best for periods in games, but being at our best consistently for the entirety of the match to ensure we get the win we need in each upcoming game.

‘That is what you need to do to be successful. We know what is in front of us now. The remaining games, we have to win, and we are more than capable of doing that. We have done it before. It’s important we build on this win and take that forward.’

There’s also a snippet from Joe Hart in the Manchester Evening News today as well where he talks about Vincent Kompany coming back stronger having been ‘rested’ in midweek.

‘Vinny appreciates, same as we all do, that sometimes the manager will change the squad. There is no one destined to play every game – I have learned that lesson. Vinny’s an unbelievable player, one of the best I have ever played with, and this was his night off. I’m sure he will be back in the team again with that captain’s armband, being one of the best defenders in the world.’
