The expected and known about departure of England midfielder James Milner to Liverpool this summer has now been confirmed by Manchester City.

With a new contract going unsigned, and well reported agreement with Liverpool over a move following his contract expiring last month, with July 1 now being here his new deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side now comes into force.

Milner moved to us from Aston Villa back in August of 2010, and in a five year association with us he leaves having made a total of 203 appearances, with a return of 18 goals as he became a key member of our charge to the FA Cup, Capital One Cup and two Premier League titles.

Last season he made 32 appearances in the league for manager Manuel Pellegrini, 18 of them being starts but we all know about Milner’s unhappiness with bench starts over the years.

He did start ten more times in cup competitions though last year, with three from the bench.

In total he played his part in 45 of our 51 matches across the campaign, scoring eight times.
