More Delusions?

If anything convinced me that the clown of a manager had to leave our club it was two aspects from today’s non event.

First up was the negative, defensive tactics that have plagued the Pearce reign. We were safe before the game, we were playing a side that were down after losing a Euro semi and it was a local derby in our last home game of the season.

So master-tactician Pearce opts for a safety first, one up front for the majority of the game and hands all the time, space and initiative to a below par rag side.

If that wasn’t enough he then followed it up with this drivel courtesy of the Manchester Evening News:

‘We had every opportunity to equalise and push on but we missed it.

‘Sometimes in the game things contrive against you if you don’t take the opportunities in front of you.

‘We’ve not achieved where we’d like to achieve and our Achilles heel has been putting the ball in the net.

‘We’ve not hurt teams up front and that’s something we’ll need to address in the summer.’

But he rejected claims that his side played too defensively against their city rivals.

He told Sky Sports 1: ‘Quite often this season when we’ve come out and chased games we’ve conceded more chances.

‘When we’ve come out to chase the game we’ve looked more likely to lose it than win it.

‘(But today) we’ve stayed in it for most of the game against – after this result – probably the champions of England.’

The last paragraph sums it up, ‘we stayed in it’. That is the sum of our manager’s ambition; staying in it in a local derby.

The sooner he goes the better.

On the plus side I got a nice suntan and two new City scarves.

Report to follow tomorrow.
