More goals than Sterling & Jesus, value risen by 100% – Man City man hitting form [Opinion]

Despite being a prolific striker in Argentina with 54 goals and 31 assists from 122 games at River Plate, Julian Alvarez didn’t have the best start to life at Manchester City.

The 22-year-old scored just three goals from his first 15 appearances in all competitions but has since netted two goals with two assists from his last two games across the board and looks an able deputy for Erling Haaland.

Alvarez had a hand in all three goals from City’s 3-1 win over Sevilla on Wednesday and scored in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Fulham, so the Argentine international now has six goals with two assists from 18 games since making the switch from River –

He’s bagged more than Raheem Sterling (five goals from 18 games) and Gabriel Jesus (five goals from 18 games) while costing just £14m, so City have got themselves a bargain buy. Alvarez’s market value has risen to £27.86m too, so it’s doubled as a City player.

Vital Man City pondered whether Pep Guardiola would be worried at losing Haaland to injury due to Alvarez initially struggling to make an impact at City, but the 22-year-old’s upturn in form will allay any fears.
