Most clearances, most aerial duels won – Man City defender dominant v Wolves [Opinion]

|

Manchester City comfortably beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 on Saturday afternoon and Aymeric Laporte was one of many players who impressed. The 28-year-old featured at left-back and centre-back against Wolves but was dominant in both roles.

No player made more clearances than Laporte and no player won more aerial duels, so Wolves didn’t get change out of the 28-year-old. The visitors only managing one shot on target while Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez and Hwang Hee-Chan won just two aerial duels between them, so Laporte did his job.

Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News gave the Spanish international a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘comfortable’ with everything Wolves threw at him. Sean Walsh of 90min gave Laporte a player rating of 6/10. SofaScore gave the 28-year-old a player rating of 7.1/10.

With four clearances, zero fouls made, three aerial duels won, 96.8% of his 62 passes completed and a 100% record with his long balls, Laporte can be very happy with his contribution over the weekend.

The Spaniard has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season but hadn’t played in the Premier League since November due to stiff competition from Nathan Ake, so it was a big call to throw him in. Laporte vindicated Guardiola’s faith, however.
