It’s being reported – not least by Schalke’s official website – that on loan defender Matija Nastastic has now signed a permanent deal keeping him at the club until the summer of 2019.

The player said on their official site announcement.

‘I am proud and happy that I remain at Schalke. The team did very well taking me from day one, I was immediately a part of the team. In the future I would like to help us to achieve our goals as a team.’

With Nastasic coming to us from Fiorentina for a reported £12million back in August 2012, he went on to be named as our Young Player of the Season in his first year, and although he picked up a Premier League winner’s medal in year two, that season was cut short by a serious knee injury.

He made the last of his 51 appearances for us in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal back in August last year.

The 21 year old moved to Schalke on a six month loan spell back in the January window and it was reported that they had a buy clause, but probably wasn’t expected they would enact that at this stage.

Confirmation of the clause being activated hasn’t yet been confirmed by City itself – but it has been by everyone else.
