Injury boost for Man City with £41m signing ‘available’ to face Burnley

|

Manchester City have confirmed that Nathan Ake could make his return from injury in Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Burnley. Pep Guardiola has fully fit squad to choose from and may have a decision to make on who gets the nod between Ake, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Ruben Dias.

Ake previously had a problem with his hamstring which caused him to miss our 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur (November 21) and Champions League win over Olympiacos (November 25), but the 25-year-old is now ‘available’ for selection.

Since joining for £41m over the summer, Ake has gone on to make six appearances across the board, scoring one goal. In the Premier League, the Netherlands international played in our 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (September 21), 5-2 defeat to Leicester City (September 27), 1-1 draw with Leeds United (October 3) and 1-0 win over Arsenal (October 17) but hasn’t featured since.

He was left out of the matchday squad in our 1-1 draw with West Ham United (October 24), an unused substitute in our 1-0 win over Sheffield United (October 31), an unused substitute in our 1-1 draw with Liverpool (November 8) and was injured for the Spurs defeat last weekend.

It’s unlikely Ake will start against Burnley as he’s only just returned to fitness and we’re not short at centre-back, but it’s great news that he’s available again.
