Ned To Become A Super Eagle?

Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu wants the excellent Nedum Onuoha to sack aiming for the English senior side and commit to Nigeria…

It must be tempting for City’s powerful and loyal 22 year old centre half. The likes of ‘Mr.Chelsea’ currently block the way forward for Ned and right now, he cannot get into the City side having suffered a knock in pre season and then seen Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure established as Mark Hughes’ early season centre back pairing.

The Manchester schooled and ‘A’ levelled right up defender was born in Warri (not Warrington) and holds dual Nigerian and British nationality. Having only played for England’s Under 21 side, with aplomb it should be said, the way is clear for Ned to take on that famous green shirt.

Amodu revealed: ‘We have sent word to Nedum to see if he will be interested. We will get new players but first we have to qualify (for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa).’

And that’s not going to be an easy task. Far from it.

Tunisia currently lead Nigeria in their qualifying African Group B and are no mugs. They drew with Tunisia in their last contest but the two sides go head to head in Abuja on Sunday.

Ned must be sorely tempted by the thought of playing in a World Cup Finals. As things stand now, despite his fantastic form this year, his England chances are at best, limited.
