Contrary to reports in the press in recent days, Alvaro Negredo has said that Manchester City aren’t looking to sell and cash in on him, and nor does he want to leave either.

Following just 12 months with us, taking in 52 appearances and a return of 26 goals across all competitions, Negredo did miss out on the World Cup after failing to find the net from February onwards, and with issues of fitness following injury being raised, and speculation he had become homesick the inevitable summer twaddle was bound to take place.

In any event it has led to rumours that he would be returning home, possibly to Athletic Madrid for a variety of reasons including the fact that City wanted to cash in following our FFP restrictions to give us more room to move in the market this summer.

The 28 year old player has rubbished these suggestions though, saying he’s looking forward to fighting for his place again and rediscovering his goal scoring form for us.

‘I don’t want to leave City. I’m very happy and very settled. I had a difficult end to the season and that’s why there has been a lot of talking. But I’ve been very happy here from the first day I arrived.’

Negredo did admit he obviously missed home, but that was more on the personal side rather than on the footballing side, but he wouldn’t qualify that as being homesick himself nor make a return this quickly, although obviously at some point in his future he would like to.
