Newcastle’s long-serving goalkeeper is having a medical at Manchester City after both clubs finally agreed a fee.
Yesterday it was announced that Shay was given permission to discuss a move to City after he handed in a transfer request. However there was a big stumbling block over the fee with Joe Kinnear stating that previous offers where “derisory” and an “insult”.
It now seems that a fee has been agreed and Given should put pen to paper on a deal to bring himself to Eastlands today.
My only question would be how can Given pass a medical if he apparently has this “knee-injury” that kept him out of the game against City?
If the deal does go through as expected today, then it would be a great deal for City as they would have one of the best goalkeepers in the league! Where does this leave Joe Hart?
I honestly don’t know that question because he has done very well between the sticks this year. My only reservation about Hart is that although he hardly messes up, he can still show signs of in-experience, which means purchasing Given is a great piece of business, especially if the fee is under the £10 million mark.
The deal will have a negative effect on Kasper Schmeichel who will have clubs scrambling around for his signature. I expect Kasper to be an ex-City player if not tomorrow, in the summer.
