Manchester City hosted Celtic last night at a rain-soaked Ewen Fields. The visitors made the brighter start causing City’s defence numerous problems early on. However, it was the hosts who took the lead after a mix-up in the Celtic defence let Joan Roman tap in from two yards. The Scots didn’t lie down, and through talisman Paul George, the outstanding player on the night, they created chance after chance but just couldn’t find the Manchester City net.

The goals eventually came through John Herron and Paul George midway through the first half after some neat play inside the box. After the break, both teams were keen to asset their authority on the game and George was again the provider, scoring a fantastic goal to extend the visitors lead to 3-1. Denis Suarez gave City hope in the 60th minute, cooly slotting the ball into the top corner but again, Celtic came back strongly, counter-attacking well for Watt to put the final nail in the coffin and make it 4-2 to Celtic.

Commenting on the game NextGen Co-Founder Mark Warburton said…

‘It was a sensational game of football. Both sides dealt with the difficult conditions extremely well, and it was great to see such exciting, attacking football. The result is a bitter blow for City, who will find it difficult to qualify from the Group now having lost their opening three games.’

‘Celtic however will be very encouraged by their first win of the tournament and I`m sure they will be desperate to pick up more points to qualify for the Quarter-Finals.’
