Manager Manuel Pellegrini had called on Manchester City to pick up their ninth win on the trot when we faced West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day and the team duly obliged with the perfect Christmas present for him.

With us still missing Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko, Fernando, Toure and Silva all stepped up the plate and gave us a very comfortable three one victory on the day and it left the manager beaming about the preparation and the work ethic the players were putting into the system we are now relying on.

Speaking to the Official Site following the full time whistle, he explained.

‘We changed the style of play and we are doing well. We are preparing to give the midfielders time to arrive at the edge of the box, we are creating more space and we are using the space in the right moment. I was happy because I said last week it is very important to play in another style as we don’t have strikers.’

With the fixtures coming thick and fast, the weather conditions don’t exactly help either, but the manager was pleased to see us kick off this Christmas schedule in winning ways, keeping our confidence high, especially with the knowledge that with each passing game, we get closer to having a fit squad to choose from.

‘It was a very important game because it is not easy to play on Boxing Day. We have to play three games in just a week so it was very important to start this week by winning this game away against a difficult team. It was very difficult to play because there was a lot of snow and also because if you are winning 3-0 it is difficult to continue with high pace especially when you have to play 48 hours after this game. It is very important to continue in the way we are playing because we have won the last nine games including the Champions League.’

With West Brom getting on the score sheet themselves, Pellegrini added he was disappointed we couldn’t see our way to another clean sheet but he wasn’t going to let that get him down after a performance like that.

With some worries being aired following the second half substitutions of Toure and Silva, the manager also confirmed that purely to give them a bit longer to recover ahead of our next game, and that neither player was taken off the pitch because of a knock or an injury worry of any kind, and for Silva especially given the conditions and with him not being back from injury long himself, he just didn’t want to push him more than was necessary as we already had the three points in his mind.
