‘Not a chance’ – Pundit says Pep Guardiola ‘isn’t thinking of selling’ Man City player

|

Phil Foden is set to sign a new contract worth £200k-per-week, effectively replacing Raheem Sterling’s salary for when the 27-year-old joins Chelsea this summer, so Pep Guardiola is placing a lot of faith in the England international.

Is Pep Guardiola right to sell Raheem Sterling?

Yes

No

Foden scored 14 goals with 11 assists from 45 appearances across the board last season and was named PFA Young Player of the Year, so his stock is high right now. Manchester City have won four Premier League titles in the last five seasons, so there isn’t a better club in England for Foden to join.

Frank McAvennie says the 22-year-old would have to join Barcelona or Real Madrid, but he concedes that Guardiola has no desire to let Foden go. He told Football Insider: “I don’t know where else he would go, it would need to be Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“That’s the only two teams that would be suitable for someone with as much talent as him to go to. I don’t think Pep’s thinking about selling Foden I don’t think that deal will be done. They’re not going to let Foden go, there’s not a chance on earth.”

Foden rose through the youth ranks to City’s first-team, scoring 14 goals with seven assists from 29 games for the U18s, scoring one goal with one assist from four games for the U19s, scoring six goals with five assists from nine games for the U23s and scoring 45 goals with 33 assists from 167 games at senior level.

He’s had a hand in eight goals from 16 caps for the England national team and is still only 22 years of age. The future is bright with Foden, so Guardiola can’t afford to let him go when Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling are being moved on.
