Not Him Again

Erstwhile City transfer ditherer Samuel Eto’o is allegedly back on The Citizens radar having declared he wouldn’t object to a final pay day in England…

The same Eto’o flirted with City throughout June 2009 as himself and his agent embarked upon continental brinkmanship between Barcelona and The Blues that Vital Manchester City described at the time as ‘some sort of bizarre Catalunyan mix of bluff and counter bluff.’

Having held the headlines for a week or so while his agent revealed his player was mulling over what to do next whilst shopping in Paris, the following month the Cameroon international jetted over to Inter Milan with a suitcase loaded with ?40 million in order that Zlatan Ibrahimović could make the return flight to Spain.

Two years on, the striker stated earlier this month:

‘I have many offers and I now have a month to think about what I have to do. At 30 years old, the next contract will be my last big one and so I have to decide if I want stay at Inter or not…if it is about 200 or 300 thousand that will not make a difference to me. Playing in England is an idea I have had in my head for some time and now what matters to me is finding a good team.’

Il Corriere dello Sport quoted the player as revealing he was contemplating a move to Spurs. Which is nice.

To their credit City kept their council throughout Eto’o’s Kakaesque ramblings in 2009 mindful of the Berlusconi orchestrated sting they’d copped for from the AC Milan for life Brazilian six months earlier.

Since then Manchester City and the club’s devout fanbase are older and wiser. We’d do well to steer clear of the likes of Eto’o and continue Roberto Mancini’s policy of signing younger ambitious players with which to take on the Champions League.
