Fernandinho believes the side are now back to the best and he’s looking for us to extend our winning run when we face Sunderland on Wednesday evening.

Following our Champions League win over Bayern Munich and City now winning three on the trot in total as we ended Southampton’s unbeaten run at the weekend, the midfielder had a little warning when he spoke to the MEN.

‘This is a new time for us, and from now until the end of the season I think you will see a different Manchester City. We didn’t start very well this season but now, at the end of November, we are playing much better. Now we need to keep at this quality for the whole year.’

Fernandinho went on to say that he felt the Bayern win was the real turning point, as coming from behind against a side of their quality really had boosted the players and got the confidence flooding back, and with how we performed against Southampton he felt that was evident on the pitch with how we went about our task.

‘This win was also a very important victory because this week has been quite tough for us, and this title fight is massive. When you win against a team that is above you, it is much better. We go into the next game at Sunderland with more confidence, and we are looking to win again.’

Having been questioned about the penalty decision in the game, he added that he felt it was clear ‘to everyone but the referee’ that it was a foul on Sergio Aguero so he amazed when he showed him the yellow card for apparently diving, but what took his focus in response was the fact that we didn’t let it affect us, we carried on playing and sticking to the game plan and eventually got the result we both wanted and deserved.
