It’s a case of ‘boots, shinpads, options!’ for Mark Hughes as Emmanuel Adebayor has been given the green light to head for Villa Park next Monday night…

The City gaffer’s tactical cup runneth over at this stage of an already nicely poised season, despite key absences in recent weeks. Now the four goals in four games Adebayor is back to lead the line.

Today in London, Ade and City answered a Football Association charge of improper conduct which came about as a result of his goal celebration last month in front of Arsenal’s travelling supporters who were watching their side fall 3-1 behind to the Blues at that time.

Throughout the long hearing, City mounted a robust legal defence of their star striker’s actions and cited numerous previous similar goal celebrations that have gone unpunished by the FA. This included video footage that had been compiled, some of which was brought to the club’s attention via the VMC Forum.

Ade has been fined £25,000 and given a two-match ban suspended sentence which will expire in December next year.

The FA commission said in a statement:

“In reaching its decision, the commission took into account his admission of the charge, public apology and the extremely provocative nature of the abuse he received. However, the commission also stated that players have a responsibility to conduct themselves in a proper manner, and that such celebrations are unacceptable and have the potential to cause a serious public-order incident.”

Sparky said:

‘There has been a lot said and written about Emmanuel’s goal celebration. We are just glad to put it all behind us now and I am relieved he will be able to play at Aston Villa on Monday night. Manu was in great form before his suspension and having him available again is a huge boost to us.’

Hacks such as Piers Morgan, self styled spokesman for an Arsenal generation won’t like this news one bit!
