One Goal Wonder

BlueWolfie sent us the following article.

Much has been said about how City are performing this season, and in particular the games played away from home. Seventeen points from eight games is really nothing to be scoffed at, but there is something that I feel needs to be pointed out.

It seems to be a running theme here on Vital Manchester City whereby many will say that the team of last year would have ‘lost that game’, or, ‘we’d have only got a point’.

This is very much true as we have exponentially got better this season, but if we look at the scores so far you will notice that of the five games we’ve won, three of them have only been by a one goal margin. The same is true for our one defeat. Then of course there are the two draws, both of which ended in a 1-1 result.

There are just too many games with either one goal, or a margin of one goal. Where before last year we were losing by one, now we are winning or getting the draw because of that ‘one’. However, it is because of this I feel this season is too soon to accomplish what we want them to do. If we are to scale the heights this season and push as hard as we can to get to the top (or close), those ‘one goal games’, need to quickly become two or three.

I realize a win is a win, but there only needs to be just one mistake, and suddenly those three points can turn into one, or indeed none.

When we start to punish teams and score freely as I know we can, then I will start to look at the possibility of winning the league. Until then however, I will quite happily settle for a fourth place finish.
