One More Deal Planned By City

Chief Executive Ferran Soriano has hinted that Manchester City will only make one further addition ahead of the new season and it’s likely to be a centre half.

With City operating under some constraints this summer following the UEFA FFP punishment we received, the net transfer cap we have in place for the 2014-15 season has already been used well seeing us bring in Bacary Sagna, Fernando Reges, Willy Caballero and Bruno Zuculini, and it seems the speculation linking us with Mehdi Benatia and Eliaquim Mangala is spot on in terms of us being after a central defender now.

Speaking to the Men in Blazers podcast, Soriano explained.

‘We don’t plan season by season, we plan in cycles and cycles can be three, four or five seasons. One year ago, we knew the position we wanted to reinforce in the team and we did it. We have a new right back, a holding midfielder, we’ll have a new central defender and that’s it.’

Especially with the constraints in place, Soriano adds that City won’t be signing players for the ‘sake of it’ because he knows you need the right depth and competition within the squad to foster the necessary spirit to be competitive and successful, and if you don’t have that balance it’s problematic.
