Man City could suffer transfer blow for £130m-rated man in January – opinion

We know Manchester City need a striker to replace Sergio Aguero in 2021 and we know Erling Haaland would be a brilliant option.

But despite Eurosport saying we’ll make a fresh enquiry when the winter transfer window opens, I don’t think we’ll land his signature in January.

Where will Manchester City finish this season?

There’s no doubt Haaland is one of the best strikers in Europe.

The 20-year-old scored 20 goals with six assists in 50 games for Molde FK (February 2017 – January 2019), 29 goals with seven assists in 27 games for Red Bull Salzburg (January 2019 – January 2020), 27 goals with six assists in 29 games for Borussia Dortmund (January 2020 – present) and six goals with one assist in seven games for Norway (September 2019 – present).

It’s just hard to see Dortmund cashing in so soon.

Haaland has four more years remaining on his contract and hasn’t shown a desire to depart the Westfalenstadion. Agent Mino Raiola has been adamant that his client won’t be going anywhere either, so we might be barking up the wrong tree.

I’d love to see the Norwegian international at the Etihad Stadium, but I think a deal will be hard to get over the line.

Dortmund paid £18m for Haaland in January, but Transfermarkt say he’s already worth £72m. Le10 Sport (h/t Daily Express) say the 20-year-old has a £130m asking price, so is he really attainable?
