Manchester City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening and Riyad Mahrez was one of many players who underperformed in North London.
The 29-year-old struggled to make an impact out wide and was eventually hooked in the 72nd minute by Pep Guardiola. Raheem Sterling replaced him and may be in line to take his spot after recovering from injury.

Against Tottenham, Mahrez had 59 touches, completed 89.2% of his 37 passes, created three chances, had one shot which hit the target, whipped in seven crosses with 28.5% finding a teammate and had one dribble. The £43.2m-rated Algerian was frustrated by Sergio Reguilon and eventually put out his misery spared by Pep.
Mahrez has made 11 appeararances in all competitions this season, failing to score or make an assist. Leroy Sane, however, has scored four goals and made two assists in eight games for Bayern Munich. He’s five years Mahrez’s junior too, so I can’t help but think we made the wrong decision in the transfer market.
Next up is a trip to face Olympiacos in the Champions League on Wednesday. Here’s hoping we can quickly return to winning ways and put the Spurs loss behind us.
