0 goals and 0 assists – 23yo’s exit from Man City couldn’t have gone worse

Patrick Roberts’ stint at Middlesbrough could be cut short as hes struggled for form and playing time at the Riverside Stadium, says the Northern Echo. The 23-year-old has been overlooked by Neil Warnock despite the Boro manager bemoaning a lack of depth in wide areas, so he’s better off elsewhere.

Roberts isn’t likely to feature back at City so he may need to be loaned out again or sold before the winter transfer window shuts. The out-of-form winger has been playing Championship football since the start of last season – Norwich City (July 2019 – January 2020), Boro (January 2020 – July 2020) (October 2020 – present) – so he should have interest from second-tier clubs in January.

The 23-year-old’s stock has taken a hit after a disappointing few months at Boro. Roberts has failed to score or make an assist from seven Championship appearances and finds himself behind Marcus Tavenier, Marvin Johnson and Duncan Watmore in the pecking order.

Roberts has made only three first-team appearances in five years at City and will be out of contract at the end of next season, so a departure looks on the cards at the next available opportunity. Whether a suitor will put up enough money for a permanent deal is unknown, however, as he’s hardly put himself in the shop window.
