Pace, trickery and vision – scouting report on 19 y/o linked with Man City [Opinion]

Pep Guardiola isn’t short of creative midfielders with Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden at his disposal, but Manchester City have been linked with a young playmaker in Alberto Moleiro.

Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo said a week ago that City have shown an interest in the 19-year-old who currently plays for Las Palmas in the Spanish second tier, but time will tell if they make a move.

Moleiro joined the Pío Pío from Sobradillo in 2018 and has gone on to make 53 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with four assists. The Spanish U21 international has four years remaining on his deal at the Estadio Gran Canaria and is a regular under García Pimienta, so Las Palmas won’t want to sell him.

Sans says Moleiro has a release clause of €30m (£26m) which will double if Las Palmas are promoted back to La Liga – Pío Pío currently sit second in the Segunda Division, three points adrift of Deportivo Alaves.

The 19-year-old looks to have great potential as a playmaker, possessing a great touch under pressure and having good vision to pick out a pass. He’s able to take on his opponent with trickery and has excessive pace to pull away from any marker.

He’s also hard-working and can turn over the ball in midfield too, so it’s easy to see why City are keen. Whether they actually end up signing Moleiro remains to be seen, however.
