Roberto Mancini’s signing of Patrick Vieira from Inter Milan 16 months ago proved a cunning piece of business and the World Cup Winner wants to stay in town…

The French legend who turns 35 years old next month has played a crucial dressing room father figure role for Mancio’s young squad and the likes of Mario Balotelli have spoken highly of the eloquent midfielder’s influence at Eastlands.

This weekend Paddy took the opportunity via th’official site to thank the City fans for their support and reveal his hopes of a contract extension:

‘I really want to stay here because I’ve loved my time with City…the fans have been fantastic. I just need to speak to the manager and then with the board and try to find a solution that suits everyone, but if there is a possibility, I would love to stay here.’

Vieira has chalked up 45 League and Cup appearances for City and scored 6 goals. It has been widely reported that beleagured Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger intends to offer the former captain of Arsenal and France a coaching roll in London.
