Having earlier been strongly linked with Everton, it’s now being reported in the press that goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon has been spotted at the Stadium of Light and moreover, he’s agreed provision terms with Sunderland.

It’s reported that he flew to the North East earlier today to meet club officials over the move, and he’ll obviously be moving in the hope of challenging Vito Mannone for the number one spot, and gaining himself far more regular first team action.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage, and provisional terms have been agreed, so it’s expected that official confirmation will come within the next few days.

Should he make the move, he will depart as a free agent.

In the other direction, with Sunderland themselves releasing Republic of Ireland international Keiren Westwood this summer, we are now being linked with the 29 year old goalkeeper to replace Pantilimon in our goalkeeping department.

The keeper did actually come through our youth ranks all those years ago, before moving on a free to Carlisle, and then signing for Coventry, and ultimately Sunderland, but he’s never really got going at the club, making only really a handful of appearances since joining them a few years back, so coming full circle may well be something that entices him unless he really fancies another shot in the Premiership as a No 1.
