The relatively unfamiliar face of Paul Tierney will take the whistle later today (5:30pm GMT) when Manchester City host Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

This will be the second City appointment of the season for the Lancashire native after he officiated the 2-1 win over Southampton in November. Before that, he oversaw City’s 5-1 win over Huddersfield in an FA Cup fifth round replay last season.
He has also taken charge of one Newcastle game this season, a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at St. James’ Park also in November.
Tierney was promoted to the FIFA list of Referees on 1st January 2018.
