Paying To Watch Manchester City Online

BlueWolfie sent Vital Manchester City the following article.

We as City fans, were unable to watch the thoroughly terrible game online against Fulham in the Carling Cup – which brings me to an interesting point.

The following may be a little hypothetical, but at what price would you be willing to pay to watch Manchester City’s every game live online on their website?

Let’s suppose it started an hour before kick-off, with last weeks goals and highlights, team selections, pre-match build-up, interviews and stats. Then the game (in high-quality widescreen, with surround sound), half-time talk and then thirty minutes or so of analysis. What would that be worth to you?

A ticket can easily set you back around £40, then of course there is the travelling involved and incidental costs. So, £20? £10? £5? A ‘TV season-ticket’ at £200? And of course, it would virtually halt the free internet sites, because City would control it from the source.

But there’s the problem. It’s already far cheaper than going to the stadium so does that mean empty seats? And if the talk of an expansion – or even, an altogether new stadium becomes a reality, that would mean even more empty seats.

Solution?

Reduce the price of seats to £10. If I were able, I would pay a tenner to watch it in the flesh, than pay to watch it at the same price (or less) online. Sure, I wouldn’t get all the extra bits, but nothing beats actually being there. But this would also surely mean instead of 47,000 people giving money to City, there could be 10 times as many (or more), resulting in a far greater income.

Sky, could still have their ‘thang’, because there were many times – when I lived in the UK – I wanted to watch other games not involving City (directly, or indirectly).

But for now, the endless sources around the World Wide Web will have to do, and guess what? You can find all the links in the threads right here on Vital Manchester City.
