Pearce for England?

One thing is for sure, Stuart Pearce is an England supporter. Pearce the player was England through and through, which is why it comes as no surprise to me that he is now expressing an interest in replacing Sven after the World Cup.

After earlier dismissing his chances of taking the England post, Pearce now seems to be having second thoughts. Reports emerged over the weekend that he is prepared to talk to the FA about the post and he did little to dismiss those reports with his post match comments yesterday.

Today’s Daily Express suggests that Pearce will have a part to play for England whoever gets the job, an outcome even less desirable than him leaving for the full time post. Steve McClaren’s England duties have left his club side in the mire, a situation I wouldn’t want to see at City. I want a manager who is City full time, not one who has one eye on his England duties.

That said, I personally don’t think Pearce will get the job. There are more qualified managers for the post and I just cannot see Pearce the man neglecting his club role to split two jobs. I hope I’m right and Stuart Pearce is still Manchester City’s manager at the start of next season.
