Pearce to Appeal Dabo Red Card

City have today, quite rightly appealed against Ousmane Dabo’s red card given by referee Howard Webb during last night’s defeat against Reading.

Dabo was shown a straight red card after Howard Webb deemed it serious foul play after he led with an arm in an aerial challenge with Reading’s Steve Sidwell, although television replays showed that Dabo had gone for the ball and not used his elbow. At worst it should have been a yellow, with most neutral commentators saying it should not even have been a caution.

The appeal will be heard by the FA on Thursday, but we shouldn’t get our hopes up as there isn’t a good track record of unfair dismissals and other erroneous cautions being overturned. The FA is an ‘old boys’ network after all, so are unlikely to view this appeal favourably and admit a referee might have actually got it wrong.
