Manager Manuel Pellegrini has said he’s confident that the way we line up against Crystal Palace, without our recognised strikers, will still see us to victory because we have goals throughout the team.

Speaking to the press ahead of the game this weekend, and I’m cherry picking from a number of different sources, the manager explained that with the continued absence of Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero, he was confident that others would step up the plate and find the goals we needed.

‘The three strikers are out tomorrow. None of them are fit so we have to arrange the team without Jovetic, Dzeko and Aguero. We will try to play in another way. I hope that midfielders will arrive from the second line and we will score in another way.’

Vincent Kompany is also expected to be out following a re-occurrence of his hamstring problem in the last game against Leicester City.

‘Vincent is recovering from his injury but he is not fit.’

With Pozo available for another run out, Pellegrini also indicated he had considered using James Milner as a ‘false No 9’ but Samir Nasir and David Silva are also options for that kind of alternative forward cover, so it’ll be interesting to see what he actually does for this game again.

The manager also spoke briefly about the contract situations with Joe Hart and James Milner, and he said he remained confident that both players would soon commit their futures, but he appreciates that players always need time to assess things, but he wouldn’t confirm that talks had broken down at the moment with Milner.

Moving back to the game, and our hopes for the season, he also said.

‘That is very important (winning) not for the pressure we can put on Chelsea but it is very important to add three more points and to finish the first round of games with the most amount of points we can. We cannot drop any more here at home because we already dropped the same number of points we did last season.’
