Manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that the Manchester City side are playing with the right intensity to continue closing the gap on Chelsea in the Premier League and as we head into the Boxing Day clash against West Bromwich Albion he is looking for us to pick up our ninth successive victory.

Speaking to the press, the manager explained.

‘We are playing now with the intensity and the style of play we always do. Again we have players in high level of performance and good moments. We are trusting in what we do so, in the same way maybe we played in a poor way two months ago, we are doing very well.’

If we pick up victory this weekend and go nine victories on the trot, it would be a run we have only apparently achieved twice in our history. Firstly back in the Division Two campaign of 1909-10 and then slightly more recently, back in the autumn of 2011.

the gaffer also confirmed that discussions had been entered into over the possibility of extending midfielder Frank Lampard’s stay at the club given how important he has shown himself to be during his initial loan spell, and he explained that he was hopeful that a positive result in those negotiations would be achieved in the coming few days.
