Manuel Pellegrini has a contract at the Etihad Stadium that takes him through until the end of the 2015/16 season. Pep Guardiola also has a contract with Bayern Munich that also takes him through until the end of the 2015/16 season – two and two equals a deal for the Spaniard to move into his office next summer….

Pellegrini has reacted to weekend reports by BeIn Sports in Qatar that Guardiola has agreed a ‘pre-contract’ if you will to takeover at City when both managers’ contracts expire next summer.

Speaking to the media, from our latest part of pre-season, he played down such a view first and foremost but then did admit he knows he needs to bring a major title(s) to the Etihad for it to be a successful 2015/16 season, and possibly save his job?

Given this need for trophies Pellegrini says he’s, as you’d expect, targeting all four competitions we’re in but the Premier League title and Champions League in particular are what we’re after, he said.

‘First of all to win titles. It is important to win a title – we will try to win all four.

‘The Champions and Premier League are more important, and after that to be comfortable about the way we play the whole year and be competitive in all competitions.

‘I hope we are going to continue further in the Champions League. In the last two seasons we have been unlucky, we have faced Bayern Munich in the group stage and after that Barcelona in the round of 16.’

Guardiola eventually arriving at City as our manager seems one of those inevitabilities in football, however I’d seriously doubt the validity of these Qatari claims and really don’t think, as much as deals are brokered behind the scenes of course, we would do something like this – at this stage for sure – would we?

Imagine if, this deals NOT been done though, such a deal had ‘been agreed’ and then Pellers went a won the Premier League and/or Champions League, how could you dispense of the manager!

At the end of the day this seems nothing more, maybe in time it’ll happen, than media speculation to unsettle and try to destabilise the club doesn’t it?
