Manager Manuel Pellegrini had one simple message at full time in the two one victory over Swansea City at the weekend – the win was all that mattered.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, a pleased and fairly relieved gaffer knew it was hardly a classic once again, but we did enough with goals coming from Wilfried Bony and Kelechi Iheanacho’s Yaya Toure inspired deflection to take all three points.

Of course there were minor disappointments for him, the edgy nature of the match plus not keeping a clean sheet, but referencing tiring weeks for the players, he knew it was what it was.

‘Without the last two minutes of the match, I think 1-0 would be the perfect game for us. It’s important to keep clean sheet but it`s also important for the team to win this kind of game. I think that we showed the spirit of this team when we were drawing 1-1. We knew we weren`t playing that well but we also knew we had to find another goal and fortunately, we did.’

With the gaffer knowing that Swansea were good value for their point, he went on to credit Toure for his performance, describing him as being one of the best on show in the game with his determination.

‘Yaya was one of the best players in this game. He was the player who tried to create different things. He just came back from an injury in his calf and he played in midweek and today so I’m happy for him. That was our fifth game in 15 days, it was important to win this game – now we’ll see what happens at the top of the table. We have the week to work before we play Arsenal.’
