Manchester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday evening and can’t afford anything less than a win after suffering defeat in their last Premier League game, but Pep Guardiola could be without Ruben Dias.
The 25-year-old missed City’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon with a hamstring injury, resulting in Pep starting Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji at centre-back. Dias returned to training over the weekend, but it’s hard to see him featuring against Spurs as it’s too soon.
Dias has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season, last playing in City’s 2-1 win over Fulham on November 5. He picked up the injury while at the 2022 World Cup with Portugal and hasn’t featured ever since.
The 25-year-old was an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Brentford on November 12 but has been left out of the matchday squad for their last four league games. Guardiola isn’t short of options in Dias’ stead, but he will be looking forward to having him back as he was a regular when fit.
