The City boss revealed in the aftermath of his side’s 1-0 win over Spurs that Garcia was left out of the matchday squad as he’ll be on his way back to Barcelona.

As per Marca, Guardiola said: “Eric Garcia is one of my favourite players. I would love to have 15 Eric Garcias. He’s not on the bench because I think he’s going to move to Barcelona.”

The 20-year-old joined City from Barca in 2017 and has gone on to make 33 appearances in all competitions, notching one assist. Garcia failed to nail down a regular starting place in his four years at the Etihad, so he’s sought a move away from Manchester.

Barcelona are in financial disarray, in part because of the Covid-19 pandemic, so they have to shop in the bargain bin this summer. Garcia is rate highly by Guardiola and clearly by his old employers, so he’s deemed a worthy acquisition.

The Spanish international would have Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza for competition, but he could eventually force his way into the starting lineup. Garcia might end up being City’s loss and Barca’s gain.
