Pep Guardiola has another injury doubt ahead of Dortmund clash

|

Kyle Walker is touch and go whether he’ll face Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday’s Champions League group clash after missing Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Sevilla, but he’s not the only injury doubt.

John Stones was also absent for the trip to Spain and may not be 100% going into their midweek clash at the Etihad Stadium, so Pep Guardiola might be without the two defenders for consecutive European outings.

Stones played a full 90 minutes in City’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on September 3 but picked up a knock days later in training that forced him out of the Sevilla game on September 6.

The 28-year-old’s injury was said to be less serious at the time, but Premier Injuries are still giving him a 50% chance of returning in time. And it remains to be seen if Stones would be fit to start even if he’s recovered.

Guardiola won’t want to risk exacerbating a problem by pushing a player too soon, so Manuel Akanji might be in line to start his second consecutive game at Stones’ expense.

The new-boy, ironically signed from Dortmund, impressed on his debut and has a wealth of experience domestically and in European competition, so Guardiola won’t have an issue giving him the nod if Stones isn’t ready.
