Report: Midfielder ‘considered untouchable’ by Manchester City

Phil Foden is having a fantastic season at Manchester City, scoring 10 goals and making six assists in 30 games across the board. The 20-year-old has flourished after being given more playing time by Pep Guardiola and is now ‘considered untouchable’, writes Fabrizio Romano for CBS Sports.

City are top of the Premier League with 53 points from 23 games and Foden has featured in all but five of them. He’s made 18 league appearances and been an unused substitute five times, operating out wide, in midfield and as a makeshift centre-forward.

Foden has played in every Champions League group game, every FA Cup clash and three of four EFL Cup matches. The England international is now one of the first names on the teamsheet and City are now making transfer plans with him in mind.

The 20-year-old has created 26 chances, made 10 interceptions, had 24 successful dribbles, made 15 tackles, won 21 free-kicks and whipped in 46 crosses in the league. Only Ilkay Gundogan (11) and Raheem Sterling (8) have scored more than Foden (5) while only Kevin De Bruyne (10) and Raheem Sterling (5) have made more assists (3).

Foden’s ability to operate in multiple roles makes him versatile and ideal for Guardiola who loves tactically fluid players, so the future looks bright. Gareth Southgate will also be licking his lips as Foden’s potential and this summer’s European Championships could be the making of him on the grand stage.
