Manchester City suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and Erling Haaland failed to register a shot on target over the 90 minutes.
The 22-year-old made the fewest amount of touches and completed the least amount of passes of every City player who started the game, so Jamie Carragher wonders whether Haaland feels he joined the right club.
The Norwegian international has scored 31 goals with three assists from 28 games this season, but he’s 18th in the squad for passes made per game (13.9), so he’s not contributing a lot in the build-up phase.
And while acknowledging that Haaland has scored a lot of goals because City create a lot of chances, he doesn’t think fans are seeing the best of him. He said on Sky Sports: “I think we’ve only seen 60% of Erling Haaland.
“You think of (his) goal against West Ham when there was space in behind. That’s not there every time due to the way City play. He’s come from a counter-attacking league (Bundesliga) where it’s end to end.
“You saw his blistering pace there – we don’t see it here. He might have picked the wrong club to actually get the best out of him.”
City’s defeat to Tottenham left them five points adrift of Arsenal who have a game in hand, so they’ll be determined to put things right against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Haaland will be disappointed not to manage a shot on target against Spurs, let alone only scoring in two of his last seven games, so he will want to put in a better performance.
