De Bruyne scored in the 31st minute to make it 2-0, firing an effort with the outside of his right foot into the bottom corner after coming inside with the ball and working an opening with a dizzying feint.

The Belgian international then turned provider in the 37th minute, putting Phil Foden through on goal to make it 3-0 before half time. No player had more shots on target, created more chances, made more dribbles and had more accurate crosses against the Cherries, so De Bruyne deserved to be named Man of the Match.

Tom Gott of 90min gave the 31-year-old a player rating of 9/10 and said he was ‘head and shoulders above’ Bournemouth. He also praised his passing and goal on the day too. Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News gave De Bruyne a player rating of 8/10 and said he was City’s ‘best player’.

Against Bournemouth, De Bruyne played for 90 minutes, had 72 touches, completed 100% of his 46 passes, whipped in 11 crosses with 36% finding a teammate, created five chances, had four shots with 50% hitting the target and had four successful dribbles.
