This month’s City ranter from Stretford is Taggart’s right hand man Rene Meulensteen who has been telling it like it isn’t to one of the 700 Million Club’s rubbish fanzines…

As City begin to circle the wagons for siege mentality mode with the anti-City brigade in The Street Of Shame drooling over City’s lack of summer transfer signings having foamed over too many previously, the rag coach has decided to follow up his City team talk last April with another straw clutching salvo. He sagely told Red News/ United We Issue:

‘I know the owners. I’ve been in the Middle East myself, I know a little bit of the mentality of the Arabs and it’s keep on spending, spending, spending until they’ve got it right…There’s no foundation based on a long-term sort of thing. If you look at the squad in general, they are all mid-20s, established players.’

And what he’d give to be working with a squad of City’s stature as opposed to the ragbag he oversees now which includes knackered old veterans, throwbacks to a golden youth era, remnants of once unrivalled spending and the usual raft of next Duncan Edwards’ topped off with two legendary panic buys in Berbaflop and Van Persie. City have yet to sign a player as old as either of the latter since Benjani signed for Thaksin Shinawatra.

Meulensteen then dipped into the New York Floaters company line in alluding to the usual ‘We know how to win things, strong second half of the season, got more experience’ mantra when he pompously droaned:

‘We know as no other club what it is to win the league and then start again…We look to what we stand for, what we want and I’m sure as long as the manager is in charge we will never move away too far from our principles and values that we stand for.’

As mentioned previously, we’ve been here before when Meulensteen accused City during the title run-in of ‘only having individuals who play for themselves.’ The rest, was what they tell us all the time at the swamp, ‘history.’

– Keep the team talks coming and don’t walk away Rene!
