Report: Champions could sign Man City academy graduate, clubs have ‘good relationship’

|

Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports says Manchester City centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis is a transfer target for Celtic, with Ange Postecoglou keen to strengthen the defence as a number of existing players have an uncertain futures.

Christopher Jullien has injured an injury-hit season, Osaze Urhoghide struggled for playing time and spent the second half of the campaign out on loan, Stephen Welsh has been an unused substitute for most of the season and Liam Scales has been on the periphery too.

Harwood-Bellis has risen through the youth ranks to the fringes of Man City’s first-team, making 21 appearances for the U18s, 10 appearances for the U19s, 40 appearances for the U23s and eight appearances at senior level, but his inability to nail down a regular starting place led to loan moves away.

The 20-year-old made 19 appearances for Blackburn Rovers (2021), 19 appearances for RSC Anderlecht (2021/22) and 24 appearances for Stoke City (2022). Harwood-Bellis is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2024, so he could be loaned out again next season without City having to worry about his future.

Celtic have a ‘good relationship’ with the Sky Blues too after deals for Jason Denayer, John Guidetti, Dedryck Boyata, Patrick Roberts and Daniel Arzani, so they’ll likely be confident of landing his signature. It would be a good move for all parties involved.
