Report: Club can’t afford £7.1m Man City player, new side leading race for 22 y/o

Pedro Porro was expected to turn his loan move at Sporting permanent at the end of the season for €8.5m (£7.1m), but O Jogo (h/t Sport Witness) say the Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit can’t afford him.

The 22-year-old, who joined City from Girona in 2019, has interest from Real Madrid and could sign for Los Blancos if Sporting are unable to get a deal over the line.

Porro has yet to make an appearance for the Premier League defending champions since his arrival two years ago as he’s been loaned out to Real Valladolid (August 2019 – July 2020) and Sporting (August 2020 – June 2022).

And with Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo standing in his way of a starting place in the first-team, Porro never had a chance to establish himself in Manchester. He’s performed well on loan at Sporting but money could get in the way of a transfer.

O Jogo say Sporting need to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League to earn a minimum of €9.6m (£8.1m), so their upcoming clash with Borussia Dortmund is very important. Real are ready to pounce if his loan isn’t turned permanent, however.
