Report: Defender could leave Man City, PL rivals plan ‘ambitious offer’ for £25.2m-rated man

Oleksandr Zinchenko has an uncertain future at Manchester City after struggling for playing time this campaign and the Daily Mail say Newcastle United could offer him an escape rope.

The 24-year-old was a regular under Pep Guardiola during the second half of last season, but he finds himself on the periphery. Zinchenko is behind Joao Cancelo in the pecking order and spends most of his time on the bench.

Newcastle are planning an ‘ambitious offer’ to sign the Ukraine international on loan in January, but it remains to be seen if Guardiola will let him leave, let alone if Zinchenko would be open to a departure.

Benjamin Mendy is currently in custody awaiting trial, so it’s possible he won’t play for Man City again. That means Zinchenko and Cancelo are the only left-backs at Guardiola’s disposal, so selling the former would leave them short of cover.

The Daily Mail say Zinchenko wants to stay at Man City to fight for his place, noting that the £25.2m-rated defender eventually became a regular in the starting lineup after spending months on the periphery. He’s made a total of 106 appearances for City and is hoping to add to that tally rather than leave.
